Basic Questions

Common questions about video downloader fundamentals

SioVue Video Downloader is a powerful Mac application designed to download videos from thousands of websites including YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, and many more. It allows you to save videos in various formats and qualities, download entire playlists, and includes a built-in browser for easy navigation. The app is optimized for Apple Silicon and offers the fastest download speeds available.

To download a video, simply copy the URL of the video you want to download, paste it into the URL field in the app, and click "Analyze". The app will detect all available video and audio formats. Select your preferred quality and format, choose a destination folder, and click "Download". Alternatively, you can use the built-in browser to navigate to the video and click the download button that appears when a video is detected.

SioVue Video Downloader requires macOS 10.14 or later and is optimized for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. It requires at least 4GB of RAM and 200MB of free disk space for the application itself. Additional disk space will be required for downloaded videos. An internet connection is required, with faster connections providing better download speeds.

The legality of downloading videos depends on several factors including copyright laws in your country, the terms of service of the website, and how you intend to use the downloaded content. In general, downloading videos for personal use may be acceptable in some jurisdictions under fair use provisions, but redistributing copyrighted content without permission is typically illegal. We encourage users to respect copyright laws and only download content they have permission to use.

The app will automatically check for updates when launched and notify you when a new version is available. You can also manually check for updates by going to the "Help" menu and selecting "Check for Updates". If you downloaded the app from the Mac App Store, updates will be handled through the App Store. Regular updates are important as they include support for new websites and fix issues with existing ones as website interfaces change.

Website Questions

Common questions about supported websites and compatibility

SioVue Video Downloader supports over 10,000 websites including popular platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Dailymotion, TikTok, Twitch, and many more. The app is regularly updated to add support for new websites and maintain compatibility with existing ones. You can check the complete list of supported sites in the application's "Help" section under "Supported Websites".

Some websites employ advanced protection measures that may temporarily prevent downloading. Additionally, websites frequently update their interfaces and video delivery methods, which can temporarily break compatibility. When this happens, our team works quickly to update the app. Make sure you're using the latest version of the downloader. If a specific website isn't working, you can report it through the "Help > Report Issue" menu in the app.

For age-restricted videos, you'll need to be logged into the platform in the integrated browser to download them. For YouTube, you can save your login details in the app's settings to facilitate this process. Private videos can only be downloaded if you have permission to view them and are properly authenticated. The downloader respects the access controls set by content creators and platforms.

To download a playlist, paste the playlist URL into the app and click "Analyze". The app will detect all videos in the playlist. You can then select which videos to download and choose a quality preset for all videos. For YouTube channels, use the channel's video tab URL and the app will detect the videos available. Note that downloading all videos from a large channel may take significant time and storage space.

Most subscription-based streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video use advanced Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies that prevent downloading. The SioVue Video Downloader respects these protections and does not attempt to circumvent them. The application is designed for use with websites that offer publicly accessible content or where you have specific permission to download.

Quality Questions

Common questions about video quality and formats

The available video qualities depend on what the source website offers. For most major platforms like YouTube, you can download videos in qualities ranging from 240p to 4K (2160p) or even 8K when available. The app displays all available quality options after analyzing a video URL. For the best quality, look for options labeled as "HD," "Full HD," or "4K" in the quality selection dropdown.

SioVue Video Downloader supports downloading videos in multiple formats including MP4, MKV, WebM, and MOV. For audio-only downloads, you can choose MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, and FLAC formats. The app can also automatically convert downloaded videos to various formats using the built-in converter. The default MP4 format offers the best compatibility with most devices and media players.

Some platforms (like YouTube) deliver high-quality video and audio streams separately. The downloader automatically merges these streams, but occasionally this process may fail if the streams are incompatible. If you encounter this issue, try selecting a different quality option or use the "Download video and audio separately" option and then use our Video Converter to combine them afterward. Make sure you have the latest version of the app, as updates often fix such issues.

Yes, for platforms that offer subtitles (like YouTube), you can download them along with the video. After analyzing a URL, check the "Download subtitles" option in the download panel. You can select which languages to download, and choose whether to embed the subtitles in the video file or save them as separate SRT files. Embedded subtitles will be permanently part of the video, while separate SRT files give you more flexibility for editing or selecting subtitles during playback.

When downloading from platforms that offer HDR or high frame rate content (like YouTube), these options will appear in the quality selection list after analyzing the URL. HDR options are typically labeled with "HDR" in the quality description, while high frame rate videos will show "60fps" or similar. Note that HDR content requires an HDR-compatible display to be viewed properly. To ensure you see all available options, make sure the "Show all formats" option is enabled in the settings.

Settings Questions

Common questions about downloader settings and customization

You can change the default download location by going to Preferences > General > Download Location and clicking "Change". Select your preferred folder and click "Choose". This setting will apply to all future downloads. You can also specify a different location for each download by clicking the folder icon next to the download button when initiating a download. The app remembers your most recently used folders for quick selection.

Go to Preferences > Advanced > Filename Templates to customize how downloaded files are named. You can use variables like %title%, %uploader%, %date%, %resolution%, etc. For example, the template "%uploader% - %title% (%resolution%)" would create filenames like "ChannelName - Video Title (1080p)". You can create different templates for different websites by selecting the website from the dropdown menu before editing the template.

To limit download speed, go to Preferences > Downloads > Speed Limit. Check the "Limit download speed" option and set your desired maximum speed in KB/s or MB/s. This can be useful to prevent the downloader from using all your available bandwidth, allowing other applications and devices to access the internet while downloads are in progress. You can disable this limit at any time to return to maximum download speeds.

The SioVue Video Downloader browser extension allows you to download videos directly from your web browser. To enable it, go to Preferences > Browser Integration and click "Install Browser Extension" for your preferred browser (Safari, Chrome, or Firefox). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Once installed, you'll see a download button when you visit a supported website with video content. Click this button to send the video to the downloader app.

To schedule a download, add a video URL to the download queue but don't start it immediately. Right-click on the item in the queue and select "Schedule Download". Choose a start time and, optionally, set a shutdown action to perform after the download completes (such as putting your Mac to sleep). You can also schedule recurring downloads by selecting "Add to Scheduler" from the main menu and configuring a URL to be checked and downloaded at regular intervals.
